An adjustment is a specialized chiropractic
procedure, using the hands or sometimes an adjusting
instrument, involving pressure to the joints to reposition
or correct improper motion.
Degeneration is caused by wear and tear, where
joints may misalign, resulting in stress on the spinal
structure. Minor or major trauma, congenital problems,
and/or lifestyle may contribute to degeneration over
time.
Inflammation, commonly referred to as swelling,
is a localized increase in blood supply, resulting in
small vessel dilation and/or migration of white blood
cells into the tissue.
Joints are the place of union between two or
more bones; they have a smooth inner lining and a strong
outer connecting tissue.
Ligaments are composed of fibrous tissue and
bind the joints together.
Muscles are bands of strong elastic fibers that
shorten and lengthen during movement. Muscles are essential
to skeletal support and movement.
Sciatica or a Sciatic Condition can involve
pain radiating down the sciatic nerve. Pain symptoms
may occur when the sciatic nerve is compressed.
Scoliosis is any side-to-side curve in the back,
meaning a lateral deviation of the spine from the midline.
Soft tissue injury commonly involves tearing
and swelling of muscles, tendons, ligaments, discs and
nerves.
Spinal discs are made of cartilage and separate
and provide a cushion between the twenty-four (24) vertebrae.
A sprain is a joint injury to the ligament.
A strain is overstretching or tearing of muscle
fibers caused by over-exercising or over-exerting some
part of the musculature resulting in sore, painful and
sometimes stiff muscles.
A subluxation is a misalignment of vertebral
joints, resulting in nerve pressure or irritation, and
is reduced or stabilized through a chiropractic adjustment.
Tendons are an extension of muscle into a firm
fibrous cord that attaches onto a bone.
